Your Most Vital Skill

As you’ve no doubt already established, there’s all sorts of new things you’ll have to learn!

How well you can quickly pick up on things like understanding basic HTML, uploading files using FTP, working out how to track down information quickly, configuring email accounts and so on, will make a big difference to your chances of success. If you can pick up on understanding what’s going on, and what you need to do in certain circumstances, then you’ll find it a lot easier!

writingHowever, perhaps the most important personal skill you’ll find you need is the ability to write and edit material, because there’s LOTS of it to do… responding to emails/support requests, writing/editing sales letters/thank-you pages, creating auto-responder sequences, writing new content for your web site or blog, and articles for article marketing…

And that’s before you even begin to think about creating your own information products – something which all aspiring Internet Marketers should really aim for if you have the ability.

If you think you can get away with it by using Private Label Content (PLR) – material written by other people which you purchase the rights to use as your own – then think again!

While good PLR content has its place, the successful use of PLR requires extensive re-writing of the material to make it unique. Otherwise, you run the very possible risk of being penalised by the search engines for having duplicate content! That means, while your material will still be spidered by the search engines, it basically won’t be appearing in any search results, so you won’t get much traffic at all for your efforts.

Now remember, even if the biggest thing you wrote was a composition in fourth grade, it doesn’t mean you should give up right now. You CAN work on improving your writing skills! If you don’t believe me, look at how many successful marketers come from countries where English is a second language to them, yet they have been able to overcome this barrier and develop reasonable writing skills.

If you need to improve or practise your writing skills, the best way to do it is to set up a blog and make regular posts to it. Or perhaps you could find other relevant blogs or forums and make regular comments there.

The beauty about having your own blog (and that’s a hosted solution, using your own web server – NOT a blogger.com or wordpress.com solution) is their ability to get new content indexed into the search engiens very quickly… usually only within a few days of making a new post!

And if you learn to make regular posts, it will develop good habits which will reap dividends later on!
