Barriers To OnLine Success

barrierForewarned is forearmed… paying attention to warnings allows you to prepare for trouble. So here are the main problems you might face when you start thinking about setting up shop online.

Lack of Knowledge

  • About Setting Up A Business

What do you know about setting up a business in the first place? The essentials such as, developing business and marketing plans, financial concerns, taxation issues, legal issues (incorporation etc), record keeping, etc. etc.

Most of this stuff applies to setting up any business – online or off – so if you think you can avoid it… please think again.

  • About OnLine Business

Throw in a few extra terms like CRM (Customer Relationship Management – even more important wth online business), html/javascript, web site design/maintenance, list management, affiliate programs, and hundreds of other terms you might not be familiar with…

It becomes a fairly daunting task to find out everything, soak it up like a sponge, and then DO something constructive with it.

And that’s why so-o-o many people end up suffering from…

Information Overload

The big trouble is, a LOT of the information available to you, you simply DON’T NEED right now (in the startup phase). Sure, some of it may be useful to you later on, but right now it’s just getting in the way!

That’s why the information here has been specially designed for three different stages – beginners, intermediate or advanced – so if you find yourself checking out stuff in the wrong section… you know what to do!

Information overload, if you don’t deal with it, leads to distraction and confusion! And that leads to procrastination!

Time Management

IF you have good time management skills you can deal with that by allocating set time periods for specific tasks.

Check and respond to email twice a day only – then turn it off while you do your research, or writing, or get content ready to upload, or work on your auto-responder sequences… etc. Allocate only a minimal period of time for checking out new products (unless that is part of your online business plan).

When looking at something you might purchase… ask yourself “Will I DO something with this in the next 24 hours?” If not, DON’T buy it and bury it in the virtual graveyard that is your hard drive.

IF you think something might be useful later on, then make a note of the product, price, details and the URL in a “to do” document (something you should keep open on your desktop ready to refer to).

Minimise distractions (phone, email, visitors) so you can concentrate on what you should be doing. If you find yourself getting off track, then be harsh on yourself and get back to what you should be doing!

Personal Bariers

Probably the biggest barrier you will face will be those little, nagging, self-doubt questions that keep popping into your head.

Most people stop themselves dead in their tracks with a huge variey of reasons why they can’t do something… For example:

“I don’t have enough money” or “I can’t afford to get that”
“I don’t know if I can do that” or “I don’t know how to do that”
“I can’t do what he did” or “I don’t know what he did”
“I’ll never be able to find the time to do that”…… etc.

Don’t let all these “don’t know how to’s” ruin your day. The answers are out there and readily available.

I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, and you may need some extra help to do it (in the form of a personal-development course etc) but until you can conquer this self doubt you cannot achieve what you desire!
